Encourage by the greater response for PS OptDia (Pump Station Optimum Diameter Selection) App, this follow on App (PS Hydraulic) is another powerful program in Pump Station Design series that helps designer in the estimation of pipe head losses (major and minor), selection of pump duty head (total dynamic head) and generation of system curve and pump head-system curve.

Pump Station hydraulics is critical in the design of any pump station. The accurate estimation of head losses through the various sections of pipe (i.e. pump suction, pump delivery, pipe header and rising main) is essential in the correct estimation of pump duty head (total dynamic head). Pump Station hydraulics also determines the number of pumps to be selected to cover the flow range anticipated at pump station during its design life. Selection of pump duty head and development of system curve and pump head- system curve are some of the key output of pump station hydraulics (PS Hydraulic).

This program calculates the static head and total dynamic head for a particular pump type based on design flow and number of duty pumps. The program estimates the detailed head losses through the piping system (including fittings and specials) for various flow conditions and generates the system curve. User can then input the selected pump Q-H data (provided by pump manufacturer) to generate the Pump- System Curve.

Key inputs required for the program are:
•Pump station design flow
•Number of rising main (pressure main)
•Number of duty pumps
•Length of suction/ delivery pipes and rising main
•K value for pipe fittings and specials (The recommended K Value for various pipe fittings and specials is provided in Help File for User reference)
•Suction/delivery tank operating levels
•Selected pump H-Q details

The program calculates the following:
•Major Head losses in the rising main based on Colebrook or Hazen Willium equation.
•Minor (fittings) Head losses in the pipe fittings and specials
•Pump Static Head and Total Dynamic Head
•System Curve
•Pump – System Curve

Key Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) are added in the App to provide User some of the important information including an example using PS Hydraulic App. This program works for S.I. as well as U.S. units.

This App is designed to provide necessary outputs (pump static head, dynamic head, head losses, system curve, pump-system curve etc.) based on detailed design calculation. We selected the spread-sheet and graphical format for the App so that the input/output printout of the program can become integral part of User’s detailed design project.
